Periostitis is often felt by runners and is a build up of inflammation in the fibrous sheath around the bone where tendons attach. The most common area is the inside of the shin bone.
It is caused by the same bio mechanical issues as stress fractures, so come hand in hand.
The classic collapsing in of the foot, knee and hip on impact due to patterns of tightness and weakness in the joints and muscles has to be solved to allow the symptoms to settle. If you keep on overloading it then the symptoms will recur.
